This week we will be joined by Dr Dave Landrum, Director of Advocacy , Evangelical Alliance

Dr David Landrum has been the Director of Advocacy at the Evangelical Alliance UK since June 2011.

Prior to this, he was the Senior Parliamentary Officer for the Bible Society from 2001. Based in the Houses of Parliament, this public theology work involved developing biblical advocacy, and administrating the Christian All-Party Parliamentary Group – the official group for Christian Members of Parliament and Members of the House of Lords. This work focused on supporting Christian politicians to develop a biblical worldview and to be able to communicate their faith more confidently. With a strong focus on connecting politicians, church leaders and intellectuals/theologians, this work also involved developing networks/connectivity for Christian civil servants across all the departments of government; Christian groups within the political parties in the UK; Christian policy/campaign groups; and apologetics organisations. David was also a founder of Theos – the public theology think-tank.

Before working in parliament, David lectured in politics and social sciences at Edge Hill University College.

He has a PhD in political philosophy and the policy process in education (University of Lancaster 2002), and a first-class BA honours degree in Contemporary Politics and Urban Policy Studies (Edge Hill University College 1998).

Well-respected in parliament, David is passionate about Christian social and political engagement, and his interests include cultural analysis, religious liberty, citizenship and religion, and identity in plural society. Contextually, this work has a focus upon post-secularism and post-liberalism – the reconfiguration of party politics and political culture/discourse beyond the unsustainable milieus of relativism and cultural Marxism. As these dominant ideologies continue to collapse under the weight of their own contradictions, David sees the church as having a crucial, historic role in providing a more coherent vision for politics and society. The development of such a vision, and the development of the ability of Christians to communicate it effectively, are the priorities for David’s advocacy work.

David is currently on the board of trustees for:

• Christian Solidarity Worldwide – which campaigns for Freedom of Religion and Belief

• Release International – which campaigns for persecuted and imprisoned Christians

• Faith in Public – which campaigns for the place of religion in public life in the UK
